I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Originally from Germany, one day I set my sails to New Zealand and I'm now based in sunny Nelson.
About 25 years ago I discovered my avid interest in capturing light on film. Since then, taking photos consumed more and more of my time.
I've a professional background in the digital print & design industry and a degree in mutlimedia technologies which comes in really handy when dealing with the technical side of photography.
Primarily I make photos for myself. I enjoy preserving moments in time and capturing my surrounding from my point of view. Even though 'making' photos is a common translation mistake amongst native German speakers, I do mean 'make'.
You don't take a photograph, you make it.
– Ansel Adams
'Making' a photo because it's a craft. You hardly take good photos by chance. For me a photo usually starts with an idea in my head. The next step is to translate this idea into a composition where light, location and the right moment would make a good picture.
After taking the photo it needs to be corrected and prepared for printing which in turn depends on the print process and the print medium. This part is fairly technical but I do enjoy every aspect of photography - from the idea, to the captivating print in my hands that I keep staring at if I did everything right.
I hope you enjoy my photos as much as I do.
